Opening of Two New Computer Centres - Linux4Afrika

2016-03-20 18:55 by Robin Roberts

Hilltops trainer for the new centre is Nelisa Boboti who has been with Hilltop for the past 7 years and is delighted to have this new challenge at Inkwenkwezi. She will be training and teaching computer literacy using special educational programmes in Maths and English. These are focus crisis areas in the Department of Education.

The second is in a deep rural area in Tamara located near Peddie. Here Hilltop has installed 20 computers in this high school where Simon Poni from the Dimbaza Centre will be training. Simon has 8 years of experience working for Hilltop as a trainer and reguested to open up his centre in his home village of Tamara. This new centre was opened in the first week of March 2016, 250 students will be learning on these computers and benefit.

Both centres include a wide range of educational programmes including the Ubuntu operating system and other software. It is a wonderful achievement to set up another two centres in the Eastern Cape!

At both centres the plan agreed with the school management is that students will share the labs on a rotational basis as a part of the school time table with the grade 12's getting the greater share of the time with this being their final year.

We acknowledge and thank Linux4afrika for the donation of these computers which will make a significant impact in these communities.
