  • Xhosa Culture


    The Transkei, home to the Xhosa people, is the only part of the country still governed by tribal authorities, and most of the region's inhabitants maintain a traditional lifestyle. The Xhosa people live in the traditional way, with ancient tribal systems still intact.

    The people live in thatched mud-brick huts peppered across the hills, without running water or electricity, and subsist through growing mainly maize.

  • Addo Elephant National Park


    More than 450 elephants, 400 Cape buffalo, over 48 endangered black rhino as well as a variety of antelope species are situated in the Addo Elephant National Park.

    Lion and spotted hyena have also recently been re-introduced to the area. The largest remaining population of the flightless dung beetle is located within the park.

Computer Training in the Free State

Skills Training in 6 Locations

A general ceremony will be taking place at Gariep Dam in March still to come. All students required technical support and 3 schools required computer upgrading. There were 30 computers and 6 brand new printers donated by Hilltop.

Ongoing technical support is planned together with further training for these communities in the towns listed. Currently, 2 trainees per school have been accepted.

The intensive training in each town was a success with thanks to a highly competent management team based in the Freestate.This training was contracted and funded by Seboka based in Pretoria.

New Beginnings

The 6 month programme is designed to educated these young adults in Computer Literacy, Computer Hardware, Office Administration, English, Agriculture and other life skills like Self-Defence training, Conflict Resolution and Communications skills. 

A variety of trainers have been contracted to empower these trainees. The programme is linked to outcomes of specific business plans relating to IDC the Industrial Development Corportation located in East London for financing of further business projects for the group in support of the Youth Developement Project for the community in Platfontein.

The students of Platfontein are known as The San People or The First People from two tribes called the Ixun and the Kwe originally from Namiba their second language is Afrikaans, mutually spoken both tribes.

The training is being sponsored by an organization in Switzerland, a project group of the 2 hour fun Run, see www.zafor.org. Susi Gubler has been facilitating the fund and the support of the Platfontein people.

It is an exciting time for all of us at Hilltop to take on the wonderful challenges to train, educate and inspire the Platfonteiners with new hope and skills for the future!
