  • Xhosa Culture


    The Transkei, home to the Xhosa people, is the only part of the country still governed by tribal authorities, and most of the region's inhabitants maintain a traditional lifestyle. The Xhosa people live in the traditional way, with ancient tribal systems still intact.

    The people live in thatched mud-brick huts peppered across the hills, without running water or electricity, and subsist through growing mainly maize.

  • Addo Elephant National Park


    More than 450 elephants, 400 Cape buffalo, over 48 endangered black rhino as well as a variety of antelope species are situated in the Addo Elephant National Park.

    Lion and spotted hyena have also recently been re-introduced to the area. The largest remaining population of the flightless dung beetle is located within the park.

Linux4Afrika (Germany)

During the last years some of our African members did their internship at the German Highschool St. Ursula Gymnasium Freiburg. One of the tasks was to deploy a Terminal Server Solution for this school. Now there are 20 Thin Clients in use. Those computers are not being used for classroom training. They are exclusively for the students. Additionally they serve as free Internet PCs. Operating System is Linux. Therefore the students collect first experiences with Open Source Software.
The success is overwhelming. During breaks and at times where no classes are being held, the PCs are always occupied.
Firefox as a Browser is not the only application. The Terminal Server provides all clients a lot of Open Source Software including Open Office. Special educational software is installed to extend training to the normal lessons. Even games are installed, which offers newbies the  chance to collect first experiences on Linux.

Our African students were very interested in transfering this project to their African countries. This is of course something what we want to support. First projects are already running in Mozambique and Tanzania. Other projects will follow.
